Summary:

This position works under the Maintenance Manager and is responsible for supervising the work activities of the maintenance department, including lube techs, welders, electricians, mechanics, and boiler operators. This position is responsible for preventive maintenance, maintaining machinery and equipment in good repair, remaining within budget, prioritizing assignments, maintaining a safe work environment, ensuring employees are trained and adhere to all personal safety policies, programs, regulations, and procedures, and keeping timely and accurate records of maintenance activities. This position also assists in ensuring spare parts and equipment are maintained at proper levels.

Position Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Under the direction of the Maintenance Manager, this position is responsible for supervising the daily maintenance department personnel to ensure all job duties are performed timely and to satisfactory performance levels. This includes, mechanical, electrical, welding, lubricating, boiler operations, preventive maintenance, capital projects, ongoing repair and maintenance of all plant machinery, equipment, and facilities.
  • Assists with training, scheduling, and supervision of maintenance personnel throughout the plant.
  • Assists the Maintenance Manager in the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of the preventative maintenance program.
  • Responsible for work quality and timely completion of work assignments of maintenance personnel.
  • Responsible for preparing the work list for all maintenance personnel on a daily basis. Must follow up to insure work lists are completed timely and to the expected level of performance.
  • Assists in oversight of major projects including supervision of employees and scheduling to insure all necessary parts, supplies and equipment are on hand.
  • Assists the Maintenance Manager to insure all maintenance department personnel are trained and adhere to all personal safety policies, programs, procedures, and regulations.
  • Assists the Maintenance Manager to insure all maintenance department personnel are trained in and adhere to all food safety and product quality policies, programs, regulations and procedures, including GMPs and HACCP.
  • Maintain good communication, follow-up and follow-through, both verbally and in writing, with all personnel involved in maintenance.
  • Keep daily records of any and all events that occurred throughout the plant on a daily basis.
  • Keep, maintain, and review all logs. All reports and records must be accurate, complete, and legible in English.
  • Food Safety and Product Quality: Ensure all employees who report directly to the Maintenance Foreman are trained in and knowledgeable of all Company food safety and product quality policies, programs and procedures. This includes the supervision of employee activities and all necessary and related documentation and record keeping/paperwork. As part of this responsibility, the Maintenance Foreman must be fully trained in the Company's food safety and product quality policies, programs, and procedures, including but not limited to HACCP, GMP, Allergen Control, and Sanitation programs.
  • The Maintenance Foreman is responsible for the Maintenance Manager's duties and responsibilities when the Maintenance Manager is absent.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned and keep manager informed of progress and/or problems of all projects.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • A strong mechanical background required.
  • Previous supervisory experience required.
  • Previous mechanical experience and aptitude required, preferably in a food dehydration facility.
  • Strong electrical skills required.
  • Good welding skills necessary.
  • Must be extremely familiar with machinery and large equipment, preferably in an industrial setting.
  • Good paperwork and mathematical skills.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work well with supervisors, co-workers, and all members of staff.
  • Ability to delegate duties when necessary.

Education:

Education must be of such level as to allow for the accurate reading, writing, calculation and communication of the required materials and instructions to complete the job responsibilities. High school diploma or higher education preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to stand, bend, or move repetitively for up to 12 hours.
  • Must be able to lift on a regular basis up to 50 lbs without assistance.
  • Must be able to tolerate dust or chemicals.
  • Bending, standing, stretching, lifting, reaching, climbing, crawling and fingering required.
  • Must be able to work weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.
  • Must provide own hand tools, and lockable toolbox.
  • Must be able to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to extreme hot or cold, steam, dust, wet / humid conditions, low lit areas, and loud noises.

Supervisory Duties:

The Maintenance / Shop Foreman will supervise maintenance mechanics and boiler operator personnel.

Working Conditions:

Normal plant / manufacturing environment. Hours of operation are 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The Maintenance / Shop Foreman must be available all days and all hours. Position is very physical / hands on. Will be exposed to high levels of noise, heat, cold, dust, and wet and humid conditions, and all other environmental factors normally attributed to a manufacturing environment.
